Sports Vouchers and Music Lessons

Excitement at Theatre Bugs as Ministers Announce New Benefits for Families

Theatre Bugs Hall was buzzing with excitement this week as two distinguished guests, Katrine Hildyard MP (Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing) and Andrea Michaels MP (Minister for Arts), visited to share fantastic news for families across South Australia. The Ministers announced that the government’s Sports Vouchers scheme will see credits doubled to $200 per year—and for the first time, these vouchers can now be used for music lessons.

This is a monumental step forward in supporting children’s artistic and personal development. Families will now have greater access to affordable opportunities to explore music, helping kids discover and nurture their talents. This initiative not only makes arts education more accessible but also recognises the value of creative pursuits in fostering confidence, self-expression, and community engagement among young people.

Theatre Bugs, a hub of creativity and performance, was the perfect backdrop for the announcement. Ariana, aged 11, and Erika, aged 12, two budding performers and students at Theatre Bugs, were thrilled to showcase their talents for the Ministers. Erika sang her favourite musical theatre piece with poise, while Ariana charmed everyone with a heartfelt rendition of her own favourite song. Their glowing smiles captured the excitement and pride of being part of such an important event.

Minister Katrine Hildyard highlighted how this initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to fostering well-rounded opportunities for young people, stating, “Every child deserves the chance to pursue their passions, whether it’s on the sports field or in a music studio.” Andrea Michaels added, “This is about making the arts accessible to more families. Music lessons teach not only skills but also resilience and creativity.”

Theatre Bugs Director shared, “This announcement is a game-changer for families. Many parents face tough choices when it comes to extracurricular activities. With these expanded Sports Vouchers, the decision to support their child’s passion for music or theatre just got a lot easier.”

This momentous announcement represents a celebration of arts and sports coming together to support South Australia’s future. For Erika, Ariana, and many young performers, this initiative will unlock new opportunities to grow their skills and shine on stages near and far. The Theatre Bugs community couldn’t be prouder to host such a landmark event.
